Portfolio Management Case


A regional utility was concerned about the impact of deregulation on its strategic positioning. Prior to deregulation, the utility played a traditional supplier role, maintaining regional T&D assets and modest generation facilities, and acting as a supplier to local retail customers and smaller distribution level-utilities. Upon deregulation, the utility divested its generation assets. Going forward, it was concerned that its positioning could not survive without adopting additional value-added services for customers.

The utility hired M.C. Wilhelm Associates to analyze its strategic options and develop and implement the optimal strategy.

The project led to three phases and the successful implementation of portfolio management services at the client:
